The purposes of Plant Identification, Range Judging and Range Evaluation Contests are to acquaint youth with plants, livestock and wildlife value, and importance on range and pasture lands. Participation in these events enables the contestant to better appreciate the surrounding ecosystems. In the Plant ID Contests, the participant is required to identify live, dead or mounted specimens by viewing some part of the plant, whether it is a piece of the leaf, stem, flower, seed, or root.
